Summer
School
- The Montessori School is from mid-September to
mid-June.
- There is no Montessori program during the summer.
- We offer two different summer sessions.
- The first session is educational. The children
study different units such as dinosaurs, health and safety, nature and
the environment, farm and zoo animals, dramatic arts and different cultures.
There is one field trip taken during this session.
- The second session is our day camp. The children
have lots of fun with special art project, games, water play, music,
cooking and a video movie each Friday.
- You will receive a summer school application
in April.
- You may choose one or both summer sessions.
- The school is closed 1 week prior to the first
day of summer school and 2 weeks prior to the first day of the Montessori
school year. You must arrange for childcare during this time.
Parental
Visits and Observations
- You may come to the school unannounced to visit
or pick up your child at any time during the day.
- If you would like to formally observe your child
in class, we must be notified. It is very disruptive to have too many
observers in a classroom. We limit observers for the well being of the
children.
- You are welcome to eat lunch at school with your
child or take him out to lunch!
Parent
- Teacher Conferences
- Conferences are scheduled in November and May.
- The May conference will include a written report
of the child's progress at school.
- One week prior to the three-week conference period,
a sign-up sheet will be posted on the parent bulletin board in the office.
- The sheet will list the date and time periods
available for each teacher. You must sign your name next to the date
and time most convenient for you.
- The school policy for missed appointments
is:
- If the teacher must cancel the appointment,
she will re-schedule with the parent a day and time that is convenient
for both.
- If the parent cannot attend the scheduled
meeting, he/she must cancel no later than two days before
the meeting. If there are appointments still available the parent
may sign up again.
- If a parent misses or is late for the meeting,
no new appointment will be scheduled.
- This policy insures a time slot for each
family and allows the teacher to finish the conferences within the
designated three-week time period.
- Parents who do not attend the May conference
will receive their child's progress report in June.
- You may meet with your child's teacher at any
time during the year. Please make an appointment in the office.
- Please feel free to make an appointment at any
time. It is the policy of the school to facilitate the highest degree
of cooperation between parents, teachers and administration.
- Please do not let a problem or concern approach
crisis proportion before you call.
School
Calendar - Important Notices
- Each family will receive a school calendar in
September. The calendar will list all important events, holidays and
vacation periods.
- Please keep your calendar in a safe place for
referral.
- Prior to each event, the school will send out
a flyer or post information on the front door.
- Please check for flyers or notes with your child's
name located on the office table.
- The parent bulletin board in the office should
be checked regularly also for school information and important notices.
Discipline
- The only type of discipline used is TIME AWAY.
- The child is asked to sit or stand away from
the group.
- Time Away is used to help the
child calm down, get under control and think about how he/she should
behave appropriately.
- If Time Away is not working,
we conference with the parent on the best approach to use.
- Corporal punishment is against school
policy and against the law!
